I acquired this Sharps Carbine yesterday. Serial #78703. Serial is on upper tang and barrel.
The barrel is still in .52 cal with the six-groove rifling. I understand Sharps did not reline them to 3-groove if the .52 bore was in good shape.
There is no inspector's proof on left side of the stock.....Converted for the civilian market perhaps?
Also there is a threaded hole on the left side of the 'plate' I can't explain....Hole to mount a sight maybe? It serves no purpose that I can tell. I made a plug screw for it.
I provided pics of the markings that I can see. The Sharps marking is mostly worn away but can be seen in front of the rear sight.
It's pretty much devoid of finish except under the wood but the stock and bore are in very good shape.
I gave $400.00 for it.
