Hi all, random Q, but does anyone know what kind of service the process svchost.exe (netsvcs) or something to that effect (not at home to check. Oct 10, 2013 One or more of the identified infections is related to a nasty rootkit component which is difficult to remove. Rootkits and backdoor Trojans are very dangerous because they use advanced techniques (backdoors) as a means of accessing a computer system that bypasses security mechanisms and steal sensitive information which they send back to the hacker. Many rootkits can.
I frequently find now that when browsing the net, my PC CPU is in excess of 80%+ with this process typically taking about 60% of it and it regularly maxes out my PC at 100%. Browsing to new web pages on average takes around 30 seconds for the page to load - it just whirs away and says 'looking up microsoft.com' for ages; browsing to new pages can take anything from 15 - 45 seconds. This is regardless of using IE version x, Chrome or Firefox.
This definitly isn't connection speed related, I've done broadband speed checks and they come back with what I expect (although the test takes around 15 minutes) & I've deliberatly downloaded some huge files and again the download speed is also what I expect. Watching online videos they appear to stream fine, there's no lag - but they do take ages to buffer and start playing on first click.
Both my iPhone and tablet load pages than my PC much faster, and my work laptop takes around 2-3 seconds to load up the same pages. Plugging the PC into my router with a cable makes no difference. RAM is completely unaffected.
Strangely, starting my Pc in safe mode with networking......everything works fine. This process CPU looks totally normal & web pages take 2-3 seconds to load. I do notice when analysing the wait chain of svchost.exe when the computer is running normally that it has about 18 children processes of the same name and 1 service of LocalNetworknoimpersonation running underneath it, i don't know if thats normal. I've ran full virus & malware scans which have found nothing.
So in a nutshell my PC takes 15-45 seconds to load web pages and it doesn't appear to be related to netwrk speed. I notice most of my CPU is hogged by svchost.exe when I'm browsing pages and my CPU frequently hits 100%. When running my PC in safe mode with networking everything runs fine.
Can anyone help with this please? Sorry if this is quite long, just trying to provide as much info as possible.
